We know that choosing the right wine for weddings is an important decision - whether you're the lucky couple or a wedding planner. Here at Wine Hound, we are on hand to help you make the best wedding wine choice for your guests and your budget!
How much wine do you need for a wedding?
There is no hard and fast rule for deciding the right amount of wine for a wedding.... it really depends on what your guests like to drink, the structure of the day, the type of meal... and whether your wedding guests have far to travel or not!
Wedding wine calculator
(i) The reception
- Take the number of guests ... NB - make sure you take off the children in your calculations!
- Divide by 2 to give you the number of bottles you need
- Decide what ratio of white wine versus red wine you need (see our food matching tips). If you are not sure, go 50:50... although midsummer weddings should aim for 60:40 in favour of white.
At Wine Hound, you can mix and match any combination of wedding wines to make up a case.
(ii) The toast
For the wedding toast, one bottle is likely to serve 6 people and you'll only need one glass per guest. Although Champagne is the traditional wedding toast, many people are choosing the fashionable Italian alternative of Prosecco, or a Spanish Cava ... and this will make your wedding wine budget go further!
