Finca Sophenia 'ES Vino' Sauvignon Blanc

Finca Sophenia 'ES Vino' Sauvignon Blanc

Very bright greenish yellow colour with intense citric aromas of pink grapefruit, passion fruit and lime. In the mouth it is fresh and citric, with intense and concentrated flavours and a lingering aftertaste.

Backsberg Pumphouse Shiraz - 2007

Favourite South African Red Wine 75 cl Bottle

The Pumphouse Shiraz is selected from mature vineyards that show intense varietal character including black cherry, pepper and spice. Whilst full bodied, the fruit is ripe and sweet and the tannins are soft. A subtle mint and vanilla complexity is derived from a period of maturation in barrel and enhances a long finish. One of the 'Star' super premium wines grown and hand-crafted at Backsberg. Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Founded in 1916, this wonderful estate is located below `The Little Tower of Babylon` on the steep hillside vineyards in Paarl. This prominent producer has been at the forefront of quality wine production for many years. Currently under the stewardship of third generation Michael Back, they are making considerable waves in the international market. Recently achieving carbon neutral status, the first in South Africa. They constantly strive to produce the highest quality grapes using natural and organic principals. Rising star, winemaker Guillaume Nell is well supported by viticulturalist Clive Trent.

Can't stop drinking this

Have been taking Australian wine to Zambia where I travel regularly because normally Zambia gets the South African wine cast-offs - but on my previous trip when I ran out of the Aussies, I tried the Pumphouse not expecting much - but it is the best shiraz I've had this year. And on my more recent trip the local Spar seems to be well stocked up on Backsberg - so no more lugging of bottles from the UK to Zambia.

This is a full on Shiraz with the soft fruit of the touch of Malbec. Spicy and peppery, it is delicious in the mouth and really is a food wine.
