Astrolabe's award winning Simon Waghorn makes this Pinot Noir to produce a red wine in contrast to his award winning Sauvignon Blanc. Specially selected and hand picked fruit from vineyards in lower Waihopai and Brancott Valleys. Fermented in small open vats with wild yeast and then aged in tight grain medium toasted French oak barrels. Bright cherry hue and an aroma of savoury plum with a hint of smokey oak. Medium bodied with pleasing weight and a long elegant finish. Classy, top notch Pinot with integrated smooth silky tannins.
Named after the famous ship, The Astrolabe, which visited the Marlborough region in the 1800s and discovered the regions` significant beauty and potential. Today its namesake has captured these qualities and created a distinctive range of wines. Nurturing the attributes of the soil, vine and climate and combining these with his minimalist approach in the winery, Simon Waghorn transforms the regions grapes into stylish and expressive wines. Already with a cult following, wines from Astrolabe offer excitement and exclusivity. One of New Zealands foremost award winning winemakers.
