Our Charity
Wine Hound is delighted to support and be associated with Canine Partners our chosen charity. Wine Hound is pledged to donate 2.5% of net profit every year to this very deserving charity to help it continue to provide much needed assistance and companionship and help transform the lives of people with a special canine friend.
About Canine Partners
Canine Partners aims to transform the lives of people with disabilities, enabling them to lead more independent lives, by providing them with highly trained assistance dogs. It provides dogs for people with many disabilities including cerebal palsy, muscular dystrophy, muscular sclerosis, strokes, spina bifida and spinal injuries.
How a Canine Partner helps
A Canine Partner can respond to around one hundred different commands, including:
• Opening and shutting doors, switching lights on and off, drawing the curtains
• Emptying the washing machine
• Retrieving a wide variety of items such as keys, inhalers, crutches and phones for their partner
• Passing over the purse and items at checkouts
• Helping to stabilise during wheelchair transfers or walking with crutches
• Carrying out a range of emergency response procedures
How Wine Hound can help
Canine Partners supports over 100 active partnerships but sadly the demand for specially trained dogs is far greater than the charity can currently respond to. Wine Hound is committed to donating 2.5% of our annual net profits to this worthy organisation so that with your help we can try to make a difference to more people like Wendy, Suzi and Ian.
Wendy and Indi
Wendy is in pain 24 hours a day with a number of rheumatic, neurological and muscular disorders, yet remains a fun loving and happy person.
“Indi has helped give me my life back. He’s not just a working dog, he’s now part of me. He’s my hands, my confidence and my peace of mind. I feel incomplete without him”.
Suzi and Lex
Suzi Rogers-Hartley lived for her sport until she sustained a devastating spinal injury whilst in the Royal Navy. She was left unable to walk and wheelchair bound, as well as being discharged from service.
“I got Lex in 2003, after injuring my back on an assault course. Lex has made an amazing difference to me and has given me the confidence to go out – he’s a great ice breaker and a good way to meet people”.
Ian and Ivory
After a swimming pool accident in 1986, Ian was left paralysed from the chest down with limited arm movement and no finger use. As someone who had enjoyed a lively social life, played football, rugby and cricket on a regular basis, Ian became frustrated by his lack of independence
“When I broke my neck in a swimming accident, I thought my life was over. I’ve had a Canine Partner for seven years and I can’t imagine life without one. Ivory even buys the drinks at the pub! I feel privileged to be part of a charity that has helped to change my life in such a significant way”.
